Tenun Pahang The Pahang Weaving Center


Weaving had been a necessary skill required for the making of clothing in the days prior to
mechanized weavers were invented. The traditions continues in Pahang by the small specialized skilled folks at the Pahang Weaving Center in Pulau Keladi in Pekan, formally known as Tenun Pahang.

The weaving industry, which had been closely associated with the Sultans of Pahang. It has been in existence for the last 200 years. It can proudly boasts of the quality of its silk, produced at Pulau Keladi. Its traditional intricate weaving method has been passed down for generations. A wide array of silk scarves and fabrics are on sale at the center and at its outlets in Kuantan, the capital of Pahang.

Tenun Pahang is regarded as the traditional Malay heritage linked to their ancestors. For that reason, the cloth usually kept at the best location in a house to preserve the elegance and the regal nature of the fine cloth.
