The tradition of Pahang still remains until today. The music of the drums and gong is normally displayed on the wedding days. The gong or known to the peoples of Pahang as "ketawak". It is made from tin and the drums is made from wood and the buffalo's skin.
It is the tradition to have the silat as the welcoming show for the groom. The wedding is normally held at the girl's house. The groom will come at the agreed time with his entourage. The he will stop for a while about 20 meters from the house and waits for the bride to join him. They will be sitting for the "bersanding" ceremony/ The "silat" will be displayed during the bersanding ceremony.
In the old days, the wedding ceremony can last for 3 days, and the whole population of the village were helping in the ceremony.
The event is not complete without the silat. Silat is the Malay art of self defense. The version shown at the wedding is known as "silat pulut". It is not the figting version, rather it is meant for show grace of the hand and body movements of the performers.
