Sultan Ahmad Shah

Sultan Ahmad Shah is the current Sultan of the state of Pahang, in Malaysia.He succeeded his late father Sultan Abu Bakar in 1974. Sultan Ahmad was born in 1930 at Mangga Tunggal Palace in Pekan Pahang. His official and royal consort, Tengku Ampuan Afzan binti Tengku Panglima Perang Muhammad, a member of the Terengganu royal family.

The term sultan is an Arabic term referring to the king of a state. At present, the sultan is a constitutional position without and direct administrative power. This had been the way since the British colonial past.However, it was not so prior to the coming of the British.

The name Sultan Ahmad Shah is used as the names for many entities in Pahang:

1. Politeknik Sultan Ahmad Shah - Located in Semambu Kuantan, offering technical education.

2.Sekolah Sains Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Pekan.

3.Taman Pertanian Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah in Kuantan is an agricultural and horticultural.

4.Hospital Sultan Ahmad Shah in Temerloh.The newest and the most modern hospital in Pahang. The project was recently completed after it was delayed for more than 15 years.

5. Kolej Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah.

6. Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport, KuantanSituated about 15 km from the town of Kuantan. It is on the old road Kuantan - Temerloh.

7. The Sultan Ahmad Shah State Mosque - The state mosque is situated in the middle of Kuantan town. A beautiful building that was recently upgraded. There are many more mosques in Pahang bearing similar names as the names can be changed to that of the ruling sultan.
