There were some who submit the application for the right of the mining only to find, the information was misused and another party were awarded the right to the mining. State to attract international mining firms

KUALA LIPIS: Pahang government is receiving an estimated RM130mil in royalty payment yearly from gold mining activities from four firms operating in the state said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.
Adnan said the amount was about 5% of the gross earnings made by the licensed firms in Lipis (two), Raub and Rompin.
“Although the royalty payment does not constitute much, gold mining activities can provide plenty job opportunities to the locals and in the form of other trades.
“Our main aim is to attract more international mining firms to set up its operations and invest in the state.
“Gold mining is a risky investment as it involves plenty of funds but the returns are not guaranteed as no one knows how much contents are there in the earth’s crust,” he said after opening the Selinsing Gold Mine Manager Sdn Bhd gold mining and processing plant near here recently.
Briefing: Adnan listening to a briefing by  selinsing Gold Mine Sdn Bhd president Robert Fredrick Baldock on the operations of the gold processing mine.
Also present were state executive councillors Datuk Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Datuk Mohd Soffi Abdul Razak and Datuk Fong Koong Fuee, Padang Tengku assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rahman Mohamed, Dong assemblyman Datuk Shahiruddin Abdul Moin and Lipis district officer Datuk Mohamad Nor Abdul Rani.
Adnan said the Selinsing Gold Mine plant was the second in the Lipis district after the Penjom plant and was expected to bring about economic growth to the area and its surroundings.
He said plans for the setting up of the gold mine took off in the mid-1990s but its progress was halted for about 10 years due to land and judicial matters.
“In 2007, the issue was finally resolved with the state government issuing the license to Monument Mining Limited, a listed mining firm in the Canadian Stock Exchange.
“Through the setting up of syarikat Able Return Sdn Bhd, a huge capital injection to construct the infrastructure, mining activities can now proceed in full swing,” he said.
Adnan said the gold mining activities carried out by the four mining firms would not affect the environment as it was located far away from water catchment areas.
He said the relevant authorities would also monitor their progress from time to time to prevent any untoward incident.
